Johanne Defay has won the Women's Vans US Open of Surfing in a thrilling final that saw the French surfer take down a massive crowd in small surf. Defay, who is ranked second in the world, defeated American surfer Caroline Marks in the final, who is ranked first in the world, by a score of 15.67 to 14.17.

Defay's Victory a Major Upset

Defay's victory is a major upset, as Marks has been in dominant form all season and was the heavy favorite to take the top prize. However, Defay surfed flawlessly in the final, posting two excellent scores in the 8-point range to Marks' one excellent score.
